randoms

long time, no blog, eh?

this here's from the land fill the other day. my suv and i followed the sanitary equipment operater (garbage man) around for a little while and took a little field trip to the land fill (city dump). it smelled pretty sweet.

this here's my lady. she's reading "cat on a hot tin roof" by tennesse williams and waiting whilst i take pictures. so patient. so kind. she's a good one.

i'll have a few pics from a michigan style osbourne christmas soon.

R & B

a little r&b for ya.

also, i found a really cool show on npr last night. it's called 'sounds eclectic.' it's actually a radio show out of california. it's mostly a review of newer indie rock stuff and whatnot. they don't have podcasts but you can listen to old shows on their website.

cool chicks

these cool chicks helped me out with my holiday dinner plans.

i bought their eggs, my first local natural food purchase, to feed my family and girlfriend when they come to visit me in a few days.

hooray for family. and for eggs.

my tuesday

my days off have been warm(er), sunny and pleasant.

here's a look.

my legs are really, really long.

looking out the kitchen window of the intern house.

looking out at cronkright street.

my plant is enjoying the sunshine. she's grown quite a bit in a few months.

i also watched "an inconvenient truth" tonight. i urge you to watch it to. i'll let you borrow it.

santa is a little old lady

it's true.

st. nick is actually st. nicole.

and st. nicole is waiting to take a picture with two ponies outside of the feed store.

she also took a picture with a really big dog. a dog that was bigger than the couch they sat on. a dog that was bigger than the mini ponies. huge.

good times. good. times.

invisible

every day it's my job to try to be invisible.

some days are more successful than others.

i forgot to take my invisible potion before i left the house this morning.

the night the lights went out in georgia.

the midland dolphins had to cancel their afternoon swim meet over the weekend because of a power outage. the lights were on via generator, but the water levels were dropping too low to swim.

too bad i had to make pictures for the sports rec page, swim meet or not.

after they called the meet, the lights went out again.

my new homeboy

so thursday night i get this awesome chance to go to a detroit redwings game, go onto the ice at joe louis arena and after the game meet several of the red wings star players in the locker room.

the only thing is i really don't know squat about hockey. i looked at the driver for the trip in the locker room and said, "i'm sure this is really awesome but i have no idea. if this were, like, the pistons or something i'd probably be peeing my pants."

and, my boss got good laughs out of the whole deal because he LOVES hockey and thinks it's hilarious that i didn't know what a short handed goal was. he said if he got to go it probably would have made his month. in hindsight i should have gotten something signed for him. sorry ryan. i didn't think of it until this afternoon.

the people in the picture down here are the reason i got to be around for all this hockey crazyness. on the left here we have my friend bob, a younger man with parkinson's disease who is in the care of hospice. going to the game was his last wish through hospice.

on the right here we have henrik zetterberg. apparently he's like really awesome or something. ryan says he's probably their star.

any other sport and i might have had a clue.

oh yeah. the game was freakin' awesome. detroit went down 3-0 and came back to win 4-3 in overtime.

crazy self portraits

the other night, late, i was feeling a little crazy and a little bored so i took some pictures of myself in a red hoodie.

real cool, i know.

what's even cooler: now i'm blogging about it.

hopefully all the good ones are crazy.

day off from the interweb

the glorious thing we call the internet has recently been taking over my life. through email accounts, blogs, myspace and facebook profiles, job sites and various other time wasters, i have become leashed to my computer. so yesterday i took a stand.

sort of.

my idea was to ban the internet all together yesterday. no blog posting. no checking email. no job hunting. nothing.

in fact, since yesterday was my day off and my computer is at work, i decided to ban going into work at all because i tend to spend my off days stuck to the computer rather than getting some fresh air or reading a book.

i made it until about 9 p.m. I had to run into the office to get something and right before i walked out i broke down and checked my email, blog, etc.

i am officially addicted.

this is from bball game over the weekend.

coury's been begging me to open up the wallet and spend some bucks on a christmas tree so i don't feel lonely during the holidays in michigan.

here ya go coury. my new christmas tree. i found it in a back room at the newspaper office.

before too long santa may leave some presents under there for you, if you're good.

thank you photo gods

just when i was beginning to lose major faith in the magic of making pictures, the photo g's threw me a bone. a golden bone.

seriously. thank you photo gods for the sick light. i had a lot of fun today. please feel free to send sick light any time. i'll try to make the best of it.

until then, i'll keep plugging away. waiting for you.

this is my new homeboy. he went on a shopping spree today with a lot of other kids to buy stuff for their families. he was a little young to understand that he wasn't actually shopping for him. so when he spotted a little red race car, that's all he could think about.

this one makes me think of peter pan.

this person was aching to volunteer for the magic show. i secretly was too.

survey says...

it snowed last night. the first accumulating snow good ol mish has had since i got here.

i bought my 1997 ford explorer two years ago for this precise reason. i wrecked my teenie little sedan in monroe, michigan and decided that a 4X4 would be a logical purchase. now it is 100% effective. even though i may not need the four wheel drive in today conditions.

the center of the universe

long story, so dig in.

last night i landed in the center of the known universe. i was unaware at the time.

a nice veteran photographer (henceforth nvp) sat across from me whilst i ate a gigantic hot dog in the ford field press box in detroit. wearing my kentucky sweatshirt, nvp asks if i'm really from there. he then asks me if i know where i am.

sure, sez i. i'm at ford field in detroit.

no, he sez. you are at the center of the universe. you didn't know where you were after all.

ahh...

nvp refers to ford field as such because of all the amazing sporting events that have happened in the last year on the block that ford field sits on.

there was the super bowl, the wnba championship, the world series and something else. i can't remember. alas, the center of the universe.

the center of the universe was cool, but not what i expected.

also, i spent my fifteen minutes of fame last night.

espn was also at the game i was covering and so happened to keep putting my mug on national tv. my girlfriend saw me several times and so did her cousin and brother.

also, she saw my butt at the end of the game. i ran in front of an espn camera as the players were about to do the dumping of the gatorade on the coach.

my butt stole my 15 minutes! i want a refund.

finally, i am so sick of people treating my camera like some tv person's video camera. i want you to pretend like you don't see me taking your picture.

instead, folks like to tell me that they are number one by looking straight into my otherwise good picture and giving me the ol' number one sign.

so, for those unaware of how "it" works, as soon as you look right into my camera and raise the finger up, i'm bailing. no more picture.

and the best way to get me to not take your picture is by calling out, "hey cameraman. take my picture. hey look. i've got a sign. take my picture. woo hoo. look. i'm excited. take my picture."

thanks for hanging in there.

this lady on the right wants me to know that she is number one.

the lady second from left the wants me to know that she is also number one.

dude on the left wants me to know that he, also, is number one.

let's face it. we can't all be number one.

i lied. this guy second from the right isn't number one. he's a gangsta.
