i forgot how much life revolves around hoops here. i can't go anywhere without hearing about UK or U of L.

testing, testing...

today was the first trial run of the alien bee light kit. the district basketball tourney is coming up so i decided to give them a test run before next week.

i bounced off the ceiling and shot direct. i'm still trying to decide which way i like best. coury says bouncing, i kind of like direct.

any thoughts?

also here is a random cat that lives in my dad's shop and eats all the cat food. i don't know his name. he moved before i could get the picture i wanted.

frozen frog

coury tells me that indiana had treacherous frozen frog yesterday morning caused a two hour delay from school. what she meant was fog, obviously.

we had some treacherous frog tonight too. i went out looking for light and fog and found a cool sign and a drunk driver that didn't see the end of the road due to the fog and kept driving.

it's drew. he and i and hunter lived together in the park street burrow in bowling green. he's on his blackberry in our doorway. good times.

now he's at msnbc in new jersey. lucky.

finally got around to scanning some polaroids today.

i'm rebuilding my website and digging around through old stuff.

this is just outside the door of the MDN basement entrance. i miss 'em.

my old kentucky home

this guy here, don veatch, is marion county's outstanding farmer of the year. behind him is his 750 acre farm. he tried to give me both the puppies.

he also gave me something to think about. while i've always thought using ethanol as a fuel alternative is good, he disagrees. with the price of corn rising, it costs him more to feed his cows, which require much corn before they are shipped off to become hamburger. right now he said he's paying four dollars to make 80 cents, which does not add up in his favor.

i guess this is really a no brainer if you're a vegan...

a few things floating around in my mind

it's been a quirky day.

i'm relearning flash to rebuild my online portfolio. so far it's been less of a bear than before thanks to the help of "flash journalism" by mindy mcadams. the book practically writes the code for you. amazing.

regina spektor is my new musical girlfriend. i loved her before but i fell back in love recently. some lyrcis from her song "uh-merica" :

oh yeah. the picture is the front of my dad's shop. it looks kind of warped. i think i need cps to look at my lens.

v day part II

coury politely makes room at the table for my other valentine's day date during our candle light dinner.

she also whipped some delicious chicken parmesan, cherry cheesecake with oreo cookie crust (which i thought was just burnt crust in the dark, i wasn't going to say anything), french bread with olive oil and herbs for dipping, fresh salad topped with freshly grated parmesan cheese (i freak out over freshly grated parmesan) and a nice chilled bottle of riesling to wash it all down with.

once again, coury wins the award for best holiday planner. one day i will beat her at valentine's day.

here's an image to celebrate my first blog posting from my imac. thanks to my tech support who finally came through and helped me get this going on our wireless network. though it's still not that fast and the service is spotty, i'm still here. yeah.

in this frame we have the handsome little brother, the handsome me and the handsome dad. we don't really look alike though, do we? ;-)

for all the snow covered michiganders, it's been cold here for about 5 minutes and people are already complaining about the cold weather. hopefully in two weeks winter will be over, they say.

this is coury and i and my new girlfriend (center of the frame, dressed in black) before the pre vday date. we went to bistro 147 in lexington. they've got incredible food in a quiet little atmosphere. bravo to coury for knowing about it. and for knowing about charlie brown's, a bar that is lined with book shelves.

yesterday my new canon mark II N came in the mail. after a long hiatus, canon and i have joined forces once more.

i've never felt better.

today i took her out of the house for the first time. we went to see coury and ended up on a playdate with amira, coury's niece.

thanks gals for being my first targets, er, uh, subjects.

and don't worry photogs, i haven't resorted to just shooting pics of my girlfriend and babies. work is coming down the pipe as well. and i'm almost set up to run my own show now.

isn't quite like michigan snow.

i'm not really sad about missing the sub zero temps. sorry guys.

compared to where my brother is (iowa) and where i was (michigan), kentucky may as well be florida.
