hey cyberland.
long time, no post i know. i'm still recuperating from the weekend. i know, it's already thursday, i should be over it. at least let me explain what it is that i'm coming off of.
over the weekend i tried a new gig with box 5 productions, an event photography company of sorts that follows the applause talent search circuit all over the eastern united states. applause talent search is a dance competition circuit. every weekend they have competitions in at least two or three cities. last weekend it was in winston-salem, nc; paramus, nj; and detroit, mi. i was in winston-salem.
if you've ever seen little miss sunshine or donnie darko (sparkle motion) then you'll have a pretty good idea of what my weekend was like. saturday was all girls 12 and under trying their best to look 18 and over while dancing stripper moves all the live long day. it was disturbing to say the least. my phone call to coury on saturday was simple: if we ever have a daughter, she will not take dance.
that was quickly overthrown by coury who's always dreamed of her future daughter taking tap, ballet and jazz. i amended said statement to our daughter will never dance like a stripper. we agreed.
so, like i said, i felt like a child molester all weekend while 8-year-old girls were shaking their imaginary breasts to 'yellow polka dot bikini' and bouncing their pre-pubescent butts to lyrics about gin and juice and liquor stores. and the parents are the worst part of this equation, yelling out things like "go girl," "shake it," and my favorite, "work it girl."
and parents are paying for their children to do this.
i suppose i'm no better because i'm taking the decent money that box 5 pays me to sit in a chair and shoot a few pictures of each butt bouncing routine.
where have my morals gone???

blast from the past
today i restored some old pictures of my grandparents. grandmother is still kicking, 87 i think. grandpa passed 19 years ago, before my brother was born.
here they are throughout their lives.
this is my first time restoring old pictures. i like the tediousness of it. anybody have any idea where i can learn more about doing this?

20th District
i've always wanted to shoot a bball game in my high school gym with strobes. tuesday night i got my wish.
though it is a dome, the light still bounces just as well. i opted against direct strobe. and i don't mind seeing the crowd. feels more natural that way.
new things on the horizon, maybe. i'll keep ya posted.
