these are from an assignment that landed in my lap.

it's called flying start. it was a debate about aspects of horse breeding at keeneland. pretty interesting stuff actually.

gburg

spent the last few days in gburg, tn. shooting a national dance competition.

16 hour days and five hours of sleep add up so today was a rest day.

here's a run down.

dan the man king poses with his first place trophy. the competition was stifled.

blake sandifur tests out the green screen in gburg. blake's a former rollerblader and current filmmaker. his stuff can be seen here

i had a hell of a good time with these guys and rick, who i don't a picture of. we worked hard and played fairly hard. my advice to anyone visiting gatlinburg: go to pucker's bar and wait for something crazy to happen. in two visits to the bar the cops showed up twice, the ambulance showed up once and the bar was shut down and fined for serving a toothless lady past the point of intoxication. she later stumbled up the stairs leading out of the bar to smash the bridge of her nose on a stone wall. she bled so much that i couldn't watch.

vaca catch up

things have been crazy with me on vacation with coury and making sure coury had a great birthday. here's the rundown.

first night at clearwater beach. a cute couple watches the sunset dolphin cruise.

evil seagulls, crazy clouds and red.

coury reads her mag on the beach. we laid out like it was our job.

fast forward to coury's birthday. i took her to natural bridge. the view was pretty dern nice.

a good looking couple makes out atop natural bridge. hey! get a room.

hiatus

thanks for all the job well wishers. warm thoughts have been sent your way. still looking for jobs as the central ky freelance market is not as lucrative as i thought.

here's a frame from my shower, or rather, my parent's shower.

tequila sunrise minus tequila

i pulled an all nighter trying to get a new website together. though i'm stuck at about 97% complete, my reward was seeing a crazybeautiful foggy sunrise atop scott's ridge this morning with coury. she was a good sport and got out of bed to tag along. i may post more later but i'm still trying to decide if i like the bw or color version better. i do know that i need to learn more about toning. any advice?

blue moon on a summer day

i couldn't resist shooting some pics of my blue moon 'honey moon summer ale' this evening as a dreary day turned into a nice sunset.

i'm a huge fan of blue moon. i'm not entirely sure how i feel about honey moon summer ale yet, but i don't think it will make the favorites list.

clay's idea, i'm just shooting over him

i helped clay shoot a wedding again this weekend. this is his idea. he shot low and i shot high.

3 HR's in 3 at bats

senior kristen zutterman blasted 3 HR's in 3 at bats in the semi final game of the 5th Region tournament. down 6-3, she hit a two run shot to bring her team within one run. her team later tied it at the last possible moment, in the bottom of the seventh inning. her third home run of the night (why the other team didn't walk her, i have no idea) came in the ninth inning, the score still knotted at six. she blasted over centerfield, leading to this moment when her teammates surrounded her and thanked her for keeping their season alive.

a great day for softball

8 hours. 6 newspapers. 4 games. 2 frantic deadlines. 1 photographer.

i love my job.

saturday night coury made me spaghetti & meatballs, salad and bread sticks. she spoiled me because i got a sun burn from digging a flower garden with my shirt off while wearing no sunscreen. that's the dumbest mistake of the year, so far.

action jackson in action

sunday i assisted clay with a wedding in louisville.

both of us were on the dance floor. unfortunately we weren't booty shaking like these folks. but we had fun taking pictures of their booty shaking.

beach bum

i'm back from tampa bay. now i've got to catch up on work for other upcoming events.

also, i'm waiting for 160 gigs of photos to transfer over to a back up hard drive. you never know when one of those things might crash. waiting 12 hours for this stuff to transfer sucks though.

cheers.

captain insano

hi.

you can call me captain insano.

last night thomas exum and i drove 13 hours to get from louisville to tampa bay.

we arrived at around 9 this morning, stoked about getting some sleep (i had already drank about 5 red bulls from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.) and then some relaxing on the beach.

however, the room was not ready, wouldn't be ready until about 3 p.m., and we were exhausted. so we found a public beach, bought some $3 beach towels (you get what you pay for) and slept on the beach. tomorrow we work and then head back home.

i'll have pictures from this excursion next week. my laptop doesn't have photoshop yet.

send me some sleepy vibes.

what? a new post

sorry blog fans. the blog has been pretty much sucking lately. let me catch you up on things.

1. i've been in a different city every weekend for like 5 weeks. so far i've been to winston salem, atlanta, birmingham, detroit and mobile, alabama. this weekend i go to cleveland. i'm working with a production company out of louisville. long story short, it pays the bills and i've met really cool people and satisfied my need to travel.

2. i'm blogging from my new macbook pro. 1st laptop for me. lovin' it. i'm sure i won't enjoy paying for it and the rest of my photo gear for the next 10 years.

3. i heard the black eyed peas song "my humps" the other day on sirius satellite radio, only it was sung by alanis morissette. at first i thought it was hilarious, mostly because i thought it was a rare occasion and most people hadn't heard it. but now i find out it's not a rare occasion and several people know about it. annoying...

4. brett marshall has a blog and he has a polaroid pic of himself on his desk that i took while in midland. two things i never thought would happen. blog brett blog.

5. young's double chocolate stout beer is what it says it is. stout.

6. here's a frame of my old man. the local paper recently profiled him. he makes things on a wood lathe. he's pretty damn good at it too. here's him with an 8.5 foot post for a cabinet in someone's expensive home.

that's all for now. drop me a line. i'd love to hear the latest and greatest.

dear blogger,

you've been pretty much sucking lately.

when i try to post, i notice little blue questions marks where my pictures should be.

when i try to look at my friend's blogs, i notice they have also been victimized by little blue question marks.

please do away with this nonsense before i have to start using wordpress.

love,

jesse

finally, a picture!

yesterday i undertook an experiment called family portrait chaos. family members wanted me to bring my new camera to easter and get portraits of all the great grandchildren.

the great grandchildren didn't see the historical value in the project.

long time no post

hey cyberland.

long time, no post i know. i'm still recuperating from the weekend. i know, it's already thursday, i should be over it. at least let me explain what it is that i'm coming off of.

over the weekend i tried a new gig with box 5 productions, an event photography company of sorts that follows the applause talent search circuit all over the eastern united states. applause talent search is a dance competition circuit. every weekend they have competitions in at least two or three cities. last weekend it was in winston-salem, nc; paramus, nj; and detroit, mi. i was in winston-salem.

if you've ever seen little miss sunshine or donnie darko (sparkle motion) then you'll have a pretty good idea of what my weekend was like. saturday was all girls 12 and under trying their best to look 18 and over while dancing stripper moves all the live long day. it was disturbing to say the least. my phone call to coury on saturday was simple: if we ever have a daughter, she will not take dance.

that was quickly overthrown by coury who's always dreamed of her future daughter taking tap, ballet and jazz. i amended said statement to our daughter will never dance like a stripper. we agreed.

so, like i said, i felt like a child molester all weekend while 8-year-old girls were shaking their imaginary breasts to 'yellow polka dot bikini' and bouncing their pre-pubescent butts to lyrics about gin and juice and liquor stores. and the parents are the worst part of this equation, yelling out things like "go girl," "shake it," and my favorite, "work it girl."

and parents are paying for their children to do this.

i suppose i'm no better because i'm taking the decent money that box 5 pays me to sit in a chair and shoot a few pictures of each butt bouncing routine.

where have my morals gone???

blast from the past

today i restored some old pictures of my grandparents. grandmother is still kicking, 87 i think. grandpa passed 19 years ago, before my brother was born.

here they are throughout their lives.

this is my first time restoring old pictures. i like the tediousness of it. anybody have any idea where i can learn more about doing this?

jim returns

jim traveled all the way from iowa city to visit us on his spring break. rather than trudging through snow, he is enjoying 70 degree sunshine.

cheers to jim the traveler...

good to have you back, bro.

mchs falls in the first round

marion county's lack of size and foul trouble cost them a loss in the first round of the 5th region tournament at green county high school tuesday night. they lost 62-59.

the frenzy is over...for a few days.

the region tournament begins in a few days. i'm sleeping until then.

20th District

i've always wanted to shoot a bball game in my high school gym with strobes. tuesday night i got my wish.

though it is a dome, the light still bounces just as well. i opted against direct strobe. and i don't mind seeing the crowd. feels more natural that way.

new things on the horizon, maybe. i'll keep ya posted.
