it's official

i'm a freelancer.

yesterday i ordered a computer and some extra memory. i'm shopping around for bargains on gear. it feels great.

and then i remember that i have to pay for all of it.

this is not the path i ever thought i would take, but i'm really excited about taking it. let's see where this thing goes.

any way, i'm out.

soon, hopefully, i'll posting from a mac again and shooting pics on a more regular basis.

about to jump

in the morning i go to the bank to see if they will give me a loan to buy all my own gear and then some.

if they say yes, i'll be going in debt for a long period of time for the first time in my life. pretty soon i'll be a slave to the man.

i got to make pictures this weekend. here's something for ya.

for those of you trying to get in contact, be patient. a lot of number crunching going on down here in kentucky.

also, if you have cheap gear you want to sell me, make me an offer. i'm shopping around.

mundane monday

hey. i'm back.

the last few days have been fairly busy but a little on the normal side of things.

friday was date with coury. we were both so tired we didn't really do much. a little mexicano and a little fondue at her parents house and we were spent.

saturday was boys and girls night out. cour went with her gfriends to lville. i went with bfriends for a round of spirits at 'blues on tap.' after warming up our sipping mechanisms we headed to the crazy land of loretto for some bar fly fun.

really, i wasn't quite what i remembered. if i were, say, 18, i would have been in heaven. but really i was kind of bored and tired and ready to go. i think the social scene really isn't my scene so much anymore. maybe something a little more laid back and less crowded.

sunday was 'fix jesse's ipod day'. got some new songs, reedited the ipod and kicked it with coury.

today, mundane monday, is just that. i woke up late, per usual, and i'm kicking it with my home c leathers for the afternoon. mom and i fixed some white chili to have for dinner. that should be delicious.

i'll be glad when i start making pictures again.

"i sang so hard my vocal cords still hurt"

day two was actually very settling for me.

i brought in firewood for my dad's shop. there's a cold and wet front coming through so he needed to make sure he was well stocked. me, being unemployed, had nothing else going on.

i like bringing in wood. i like stacking it. i get pleasure out of knowing that the muddy, wet wood i brought in is drying out fast in front of dad's stove. it makes me feel useful.

so that was good. and since dad has a whole lot of firewood, i asked him if i could rick it up on pallets so it would dry better while still in the elements. he's working on getting some good pallets so i can start my project.

the wood project makes me realize a couple of things:

1. i'm much softer on the hands and around the waist than i used to be and

2. i need to stack some more wood so my belly will shrink.

poetic and prophetic, i know.

day three was less constructive. you probably don't want to hear about it. i went to lexington, saw my best friends and a friend i hadn't seen in years and had a merry time singing and dancing. i sang so hard my vocal cords still hurt. and every now and then, that's not so bad.

unemployment: day one

day one isn't so bad.

i'm missing a digi camera already though. the light was freakin' amazing all day here. and 40 degrees +. gotta get this camera situation solved.

it's been a pretty chill day. tomorrow i start looking for part time work i think. gotta maintain the cash flow, yo.

back in the homeland.

for curious minds that want to know, i'm back in ky.

my back road trip to the bluegrass state lasted 15 hours and 550 miles. i never hit an interstate once. included in the time frame was a nearly 3 hour stop in the cincinatti area and a 30 minute lunch at a little roadside diner in irish hills, mich.

i didn't take pictures at the diner (my camera is on vacation) but it had 5 or 6 tables in one little room with a kitchen in the back. it was a little intimate at first but all the patrons eventually joined in on a universal conversation. good times.

now i'm trying to reverse the effects of an 8 p.m. cuppa coffee and a midnight red bull by sipping blue moons that my parents so graciously provided.

good night. i'll see ya in blog land.

last day.

today is the last day.

the last day in midland.

the last day as an intern.

the last day of a 24 year run of having some structured event to go to next.

first day of school. first day of high school. first day of college. first day at a new internship.

the last day.

school's out forever.

here's a frame from the weekend. i will miss shooting sports for a while. i'm going to miss shooting digital, period. back to the workhorse canon 1N, yo.

thanks for watching. i'll be away for a few days. i'm taking a backroad road trip back to kentucky. i'll see you when i get there.

merry christmas...

the bloggings have been less frequent due to entertaining the visiting family and girlfriend last week. things should be up and running again soon.

here's jim getting a university of kentucky hat to wear at the university of iowa. he's a hawkeye (or hotguy, according to amy soper) but he's proud of his wildcat heritage. i must say, jim, one of my favorite things to wear in the great white north is my UK hoodie. just to get people asking questions about the homeland.

anyhow. happy holidays. start the treadmills!

randoms

long time, no blog, eh?

this here's from the land fill the other day. my suv and i followed the sanitary equipment operater (garbage man) around for a little while and took a little field trip to the land fill (city dump). it smelled pretty sweet.

this here's my lady. she's reading "cat on a hot tin roof" by tennesse williams and waiting whilst i take pictures. so patient. so kind. she's a good one.

i'll have a few pics from a michigan style osbourne christmas soon.

R & B

a little r&b for ya.

also, i found a really cool show on npr last night. it's called 'sounds eclectic.' it's actually a radio show out of california. it's mostly a review of newer indie rock stuff and whatnot. they don't have podcasts but you can listen to old shows on their website.

cool chicks

these cool chicks helped me out with my holiday dinner plans.

i bought their eggs, my first local natural food purchase, to feed my family and girlfriend when they come to visit me in a few days.

hooray for family. and for eggs.

my tuesday

my days off have been warm(er), sunny and pleasant.

here's a look.

my legs are really, really long.

looking out the kitchen window of the intern house.

looking out at cronkright street.

my plant is enjoying the sunshine. she's grown quite a bit in a few months.

i also watched "an inconvenient truth" tonight. i urge you to watch it to. i'll let you borrow it.

santa is a little old lady

it's true.

st. nick is actually st. nicole.

and st. nicole is waiting to take a picture with two ponies outside of the feed store.

she also took a picture with a really big dog. a dog that was bigger than the couch they sat on. a dog that was bigger than the mini ponies. huge.

good times. good. times.

invisible

every day it's my job to try to be invisible.

some days are more successful than others.

i forgot to take my invisible potion before i left the house this morning.

the night the lights went out in georgia.

the midland dolphins had to cancel their afternoon swim meet over the weekend because of a power outage. the lights were on via generator, but the water levels were dropping too low to swim.

too bad i had to make pictures for the sports rec page, swim meet or not.

after they called the meet, the lights went out again.
